Community Engagement

The Community Engagement Team deliver a range of services supporting disabled young people (5-18 years) and disabled adults (19+) to access community social activities of their choice.

The Buzz Youth Group (funded by Cheshire West and Chester Local Authority and Cheshire East Local Authority)

A fully accessible youth group for disabled young people aged 5-18 years in Cheshire West and 8-18 years in Cheshire East.  The group is open after school during term time and daytime during school holidays (excluding Christmas) in 8 locations; Ellesmere Port, Neston, Frodsham, Malpas, Northwich, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Crewe. Young people can attend the group independently of their parents/carers.  The fully qualified staff team will respond to all personal requirements with dignity and respect, including administration of medication, personal care and 1-1 behaviour support. Young people have the opportunity to become a member of the steering group assisting the staff team to plan and develop the group on an ongoing basis.   Example activities can include cookery, sports, creative art, drama, bushcraft, theatre visits, annual residential stays.

Buzz Creative Arts and Drama Group (funded by Children in Need)

A fully accessible arts and drama group for disabled young people aged 814 years in Cheshire West.  The group is open after school during term time (excluding Christmas) and is based in Chester. Young people can attend the group independently of their parents/carers.  The fully qualified staff team will respond to all personal requirements with dignity and respect, including administration of medication, personal care and 1-1 behaviour support. Young people have the opportunity to become a member of the steering group assisting the staff team to plan and develop the group on an ongoing basis.   Example activities can include singing, theatre skills, pottery, card making, film making, talent shows.

Good Company (part funded by the local authority)

A fully accessible social group for disabled adults aged 18+.  The group is open on a weekly basis in Chester, Macclesfield and Crewe and offers occasional daytrips during a weekend. Adults can attend the group independently of their carers if they choose to do so and the fully qualified staff team will respond to all personal requirements with dignity and respect, including administration of medication, personal care and 1-1 behaviour support. Adults have the opportunity to become a member of the steering group assising the staff team to plan and develop the group on an ongoing basis.   Example activities can include meals out, theatre trips, theme nights, party nights, craft events, cookery skills, sports events. 

Get Yourself Active (funded by Sport England)

For disabled young people and adults aged 14+ interested in being more physically active or playing sport.
The service will:
  • Work with you to get physical activity and sport included in your support plan if you have a personal budget or personal health budget
  • Help you find activities based on what you tell us
  • Assist you to access your chosen activity and review your progress on a regular basis if required
  • Assist activity providers to remove barriers to inclusion
  • Assist activity providers to set up appropriate and accessible activity session
